One on One – MPH photography – Toronto

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

I love it when I get to teach someone all I know about photography but honestly a day isn’t enough time, lol.

Nicola and I met a couple of years ago when I had the pleasure of photographing her http://mphphotography.net/blog/2009/08/royal-gems-nicola/ and she was so cute and sweet and I was so happy when she contacted me and asked about doing a one on one with me. She came over this past Sunday and was here from about 10:30-6pm or so and it was a jam packed day. We went over the basics and then went to practice a bit and then talked about so many things and I’m sure Nicola’s mind was overwhelmed by the end of the day but she did great and loved the shots she took of our model Grace.

I had invited a previous client to be our model for a little session so that I could teach Nicola just what I do during each session and how to find good lighting and showed her how to pose and what settings to use and she’s definitely a quick learner and I tried to make it alot of fun as well.

I’m more about hands on teaching, reading is good, but showing someone is better I find, so it was all about hands on experience and I think that you learn more when you are shown what to do.

Below are a few shots of Grace and I can’t thank her enough for coming out and posing for us, its always so much fun photographing her.

Nicola, my little protege, it was a joy teaching you and helping you to set forth and achieve your goals, remember to keep practicing and I know you will get to where you want to go. I wish you all the best as you start off on your photography journey, I hope to be able to say, “I knew her when…”

For ONE of ONE info where I spend the day teaching you all I know, please email me at mphphotography@gmail.com

Can you believe this girl is ONLY 15!!!

Sleeping Angel

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

I wanted to thank everyone for voting for me to win the photography workshop contest but unfortunately I did not win, 🙁 guess it wasn’t meant to be and although I’m  sad and bummed cuz I REALLY wanted to go, I’m happy for the person that won and am extending my congratulations to her.

In the process of shooting the perfect shot for this contest, which took many hours and many tries, lol,  I managed to convince my kids to dress up and pose for me for hours on end, lol. We tried many things and if I had more time I would have done something more creative and would have put angel wings on my kids, cuz well, I just love me some angel wings and that’s my style so it would have been perfect. Since I didn’t use an angel shot, my oldest wanted a shot of himself sleeping and he wanted me to turn him into an angel and put him on some clouds sleeping…. now, how could I disappoint  my son??? Of course I obliged him and we took some shots of him pretending to sleep and below is my creation.

My sleeping angel.

Please vote for me!!!

Have you ever entered a contest that you just wanted to win with every fibre of your being??? Well I just did and its for an awesome workshop http://www.cremedelacremeworkshop.com/with the fabulous Silvana Frammartino of Impulse Photography http://www.impulsephotographyblog.com/ and she wanted us to come up with something creative as our status for facebook. My entry took me forever to make as every time I tried to get the boys to sit down and take a pic, the end results were never anything that I really liked. Finally the night before the contest ended, I got the boys dressed and set up my studio at home and hubby helped with everything and we started to snap and after what seemed like hours of trying we got some shots that I was happy with and will end up treasuring actually. I wanted a shot of them praying for their mommy to win and the caption that we came up with which was perfect as it totally expressed how they felt and daddy held up the sign behind them and it was perfect. I had lots of funny faces to choose from but I went with two besides the praying shot, and I even added wings on the boys but in the end decided to go with the shot as is.

After waiting all weekend to find out who the top 10 entries were I jumped out of my chair and started shaking when Silvana’s posted on her facebook that the top 10 were up on her blog and I quickly clicked on her site to find my entry listed as one of the top 10!!!! WOO HOO!! I am so excited and beside myself with glee and just the chance of winning is awesome. I was blessed to have worked with Silvana years ago at a wedding when I assisted her, just when I was first starting out and not only did I learn alot but she helped me to get to the point where I’m at today. I still have much to learn and I know that a workshop with Silvana is exactly what I need right now and this is why I’m coming to all of you for help. It would bless me so much if you would vote for my entry, and if I could win then I could offer all my clients even better workmanship and greater experience and more knowledge and that is a win win situation in my book.

So please go on over to her blog and vote for my entry # 8! http://www.impulsephotographyblog.com/

I would be so grateful and I wish you all a blessed day.

Here is what my entry looks like up close.

Beth’s Family – MPH Photography – Toronto

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

2nd session I had last weekend was with another wonderful family, they are return clients and last year we went to wards’ island to do the session and it was a bit cold but fortunately it wasn’t as cold this time.

I love Beth and her family, besides being sweet and friendly and funny, I love the outfits she chooses for the girls, and this time I was happy as a kid in a candy store, these two little girls are so adorably cute and full of energy too and although it was hard they managed to keep their outfits pretty clean, lol.

It’s always a pleasure photographing Beth and her family and this time was no exception.  Beth likes to go to places that are unique to Toronto and after a number of emails and suggestions they decided on the guild and I love it there so I was happy. It was there first time there and with all the cool architecture from monuments and buildings that were torn down in the city to the cliff over looking the lake, there was tons to see and great backgrounds for a family shoot.

It was great to see you again Beth and thanks for allowing me to photograph your super cute family again, we had a wonderful time as I knew we would.  Enjoy your sneak peek.

and I had to turn them into angels, cuz that’s what I do,lol.

Vivienne and her family – MPH Photography – Toronto

Monday, November 1st, 2010

You can feel the chill in the air and you know that winter is right around the corner and I’m hoping the weather doesn’t get too cold as I still have sessions booked until middle of December and up until now we’ve been ok, weatherwise, meaning we can get through a session without freezing, lol. I just hope it doesn’t get TOO cold in the coming weeks, as me and the cold don’t get along very well, lol. In my heart, I live in the tropics, lol.

I had two sessions this past weekend and although cold it was still nice enough out and both sessions went very well.

First, I had the lovely opportunity to photograph Vivienne and her sweet family. They have the cutest kids and they were such troopers and never complained once about the weather and didn’t get upset at how many pics I was taking of them, lol.

We had such a nice time and it was a great location with lots of green and orange and beautiful fall colours.

Thanks Vivienne, it was great to meet you and your family, hope you enjoy your sneak peek.

Couldn’t help but turn her into an angel. 🙂
